School closure concerns

7/08/2008 5:51:00 PM
Current and future parents of Port Neill Primary School met on Tuesday night, August 5, 2008, to discuss the future of the local school.

Port Neill Primary School has committed to ‘business as usual’ despite concerns that a new education funding model will seriously undermine the school’s feasibility.

The decision to ‘forge ahead’ was made at an open meeting of the school’s Governing Council on Tuesday night.

“Port Neill Primary School is an integral part of the community,” Governing Council chair Sue Pfitzner said. “The parents who are involved and future parents who will be involved are wholeheartedly committed to the school remaining, operating as it is.”

Port Neill Primary School Governing Council has been informally warned that the existing bus route provided by the Department of Education and Children’s Services will change, or be discontinued in the 2009 school year but the school has yet to receive official confirmation of the issue.
